911SC Engine Shroud

Reference to the image below, what is the right side hole (that would be left as installed of course) in the shroud for? It's been awhile (like five years!) since I took this thing apart and I don't remember what, if anything, was there. I took a lot of pictures of the engine before I disassembled it, but this area is obscured by other components. Is, by chance, this a hole where a "mount" for the ignition harness goes?

Also was the shroud originally painted or bare? Judging from the overspray this one appears to have been painted at some time or other even though it is red underneath. If it wasn't originally that way I'm thinking of stripping it back to stock. Any suggestions as to what to use that won't damage the underlying fiberglass, plastic, whatever it is?

Not sure what that hole is. Mine has a similar hole in that area, that has a plug in it.

Yes the shroud is red all the way through. The problem is the fiber glass can and does get faded in areas. That is probably why it was painted in the first place. Your best bet is to just repaint.

Thanks, I will just have to do that.

Mine also has a similar hole, in a slightly different place on the opposite side. But it is a slightly smaller diameter.

Those holes are for the spark plug wire hold downs.
At least they are on my 2.7 .

I was rather thinking that although on mine they’re differing sizes, which seems a little odd.
