Head gaskets, rocker caps, kits and others

Hi to all, my 2.7 is now completely dismantled, ready to go to the machine shop. I am aiming at a 2.7 with Mahle RS p/c´s, Webers and S-cams, for which i have all of the parts.

Some questions:

1) Where to buy rebuild kits?
2) What about rocker arms caps?
3) Do i ABSOLUTELY have to dismantle the crankshaft. Please be objective.
4) What about head gaskets? I am having a hard time getting infos on this.

Thanks to all.

Hard to answer all your questions. Yes you have to dismantle everything! Every single part must be measured and inspected. The crankshaft must be measured for roundness of every journal, and then absolute dimensions. They all must be within spec. The crankshaft must be cleaned. brush every opening, wash with hot water and tide detergent. NEVER bead blast the crank, or engine housing, with ANY kind of bead. The heads and cylinders may be bead blasted, but MUST be brushed with a stiff brush and washed several times to remove any remnants of the bead blasting. Glass beads will embed themselves in the cylinder walls and ruin the rings in seconds. Better to not clean than to not get all the beads out. Beads of any type cannot ever be removed from the crank or engine housing, therefore do not ever clean them this way. For more see as many articles as possible.

All these questions are answered in the new book (that you don't want to buy)...

Don't remove the distributor crank / crank gear if you don't have to. You don't have to remove the plugs from the crank.

I don't know what a rocker cap is?

Head gaskets, what do you need to know?

Pelican sells everything that you need for your rebuild - check the engine sections for parts...
