GT3 crank for 3.0-3.2 case
Is this the crank that I would use in a 3.0/3.2 block for a stroke of 80.4 mm in length? What else dfo I need to do? Replace the oil pump wioth a smaller one? New bearings/rod beaqrings, etc.. basically a build from scratch?
Part number 99610202195 nif the link below doesn't work. Pelican Parts - European Automotive Parts and Accessories - Porsche • BMW • Mercedes • Volkswagen • Audi • Saab • Volvo • MINI |

The 996/997 GT3 crank has a 76.4mm stroke, and that is the part number you are referring to. The 80.4mm crank is for the GT3 4.0L, and is 3 times the price...
The 964 and 993 also uses 76.4mm cranks, but are different from the GT3 crank. The 964 and 993 cranks are also different. As for your 3.0 or 3.2 case (they are different too), the 76.4mm crank would fit. Depending on if you are building a street or track engine, you could get a 993 crank (lighter than the 964 crank) or a GT3 crank. In any case I would go for a bigger (and definitely not a smaller as you suggest) oil pump from a 930 or a GT3. You may want the crank to be cross drilled for better cooling under high load/rpm. The 3.0 and 3.2 main bearings should fit the 76.4mm crank, you will need new bearings in any new build... Con rods from a 3.0L my be used (TBC), or GT3 Pankl Ti rods, or Carillo or Pauter steel rods. What kind and size of cylinders and heads? And what fuel injection? And what cams? Everything has to match, and be built for the type of use you want or need. Is it a DD, a week end canyon carver, a DE/AX car, or a dedicated race car? They all will require different builds...

I was asking to see if a 4.0L displacement could be had out of a 3.2 block. I was told that the bigger crank meant that I had to either modify the oil pump for clearance or use one that's got a smaller case.
I'm hoping eventually to do ITB, whether it's with Rothsport's big-bore intake or a setup from Clewett. I'm still trying to decide the configuration of it all. |

The biggest cylinder bore you can have on a 3.2L block is 102mm, as opposed to the 964/993 block that you can have 105mm. The bolt spacing for the cylinders are different than the 964/993 engines. So the biggest displacement you can have with a 76.4mm crank is 3,746cc, or close to 3.8L. However, if you stroke the crank or get a GT3 4.0L 80,4mm crank, you can build a motor close to 4 liters.
As for the oil pump, you should NOT machine the pump itself, but you would need to do some machining of the case/block.

I can buy a set of LN Nickies that are 102.7mm and have the case spigot machined to 106.5mm . Using the 964 crank and cams gives me a displacement of 3.797l. Not that I think the .05 of a liter is going to make THAT much of a difference
![]() I can put a set of 106mm LN Nickies on a 964 block, requiring the case to be machined, as well. i can't remember the spigot measurement requirement for those though. If I put a gt3 crank with an 80.4 stroke on that same 3.2 with the 102.7mm Nickies ( they are much more efficient at heat transfer than the Andial set up was ) I can get 3.996 liters of displacement from a 3.2 THe issue with this setup aside from heat transfer and cylinder stability at the base is that the gt3 crank with the 80.4 stroke will definitely toss a rod into the oil pump case. That's why I think I need a different oil pump, or maybe just machine the oil pump case a bit. Now granted, I've not dne this nor really talked with anyne who has. I am trying to learn how it's don. I doubt I'll be able to afford to do it for a good long while but I do like to know as much as I can so I can make informed decisions on what's possible without budget constraint and then see how I can make a budget for it. |

![]() The reason for cross-drilling the center main journal is to improve oil volume to the center two rod journals: #2 and #5. These are the last parts of the engine to receive oil and tend to starve at high RPM. Further, the center main bearing needs to be modified and its oil feed hole in the case should be enlarged. The GT3 cranks do NOT need cross-drilling. Now, we are all on the same page. ![]()

Dear Sirs,
we do 82 mm stroke and 100 mm bore on the 3,0 and 3,2 l basic engines. Dyno runs and results to be found here: https://www.facebook.com/edelweissmotorsport/ Best reg. Dirk |

Looks very impressive! Does that car run headers with heat exchangers? My rebuild has started with a 3.4 running SSIs as a base, with a 76.4mm Gt3 crank lined up. Aside from the new 42mm OD Eisenmann SSI copies, I don't have many options with heat.

we always use our own exhaust system which is an essential parts of the performance concept. As heating it is an Eberspācher or Webasto that we use. Best reg. Dirk |

Thanks Dirk - I'm expecting an Eberspacher heater to be relatively expensive?

Just to confirm
Your saying a 993 crankshaft will work In a 3.2 case? |
