What's to say there's not a camera hidden in every room in your house (except your kids' rooms)?!?!

Here is something that works way better than silicone for filling gaps like what you're talking about (not THAT "gap") - can get it at most auto parts stores (definitely NAPA), or Amazon etc. On my airbox (a 1987 - much different to yours), there is actually a plastic guide plate that goes on top of the evaporator core (an opening in the plate, that is the same diameter as the fan, only allows air to pass through there, thus really "guiding" how it is drawn through the core), and I sealed around the perimeter of the plate with the strip caulk. I would definitely use it where you have pictured above. It is much easier to work with than silicone, shapes and sticks like crazy, but is also non-hardening, so can be removed later if necessary.
