Come on dont need to get nasty let's get keep this positive. And... have you checked the price of a total overhaul lately? Check my thread out in off topics. Looks like anywhere from $25,000 to $30,000. Don't kill the messenger.

Does my car need a total overhaul. Surely hope not I can't afford $30,000 at this point.

Let's look at the real problem. I've yet to find a mechanic that will pull heads rework them / replace rocker arms ect WITHOUT overhauling the whole engine.

I'm hoping this one will be different.

I talked to four shops about a possible badrocker arm/ bad valve guides.

Shop # 1 use to employ a English gentleman by the name of Tomas he died of cancer about 7 years ago. Genius Ferrari Porsche tech and Great person. They flat told me NO thanks. This as they have Lamborghini and a testarossa in their shop at the moment. Excuse.. our aircooled guy moved to Colorado we just don't see enough of them and they are really hard to find parts for even harder to find quality machine shops. We had to send everything to california..

RIP Tomas

Shop # 2 not interested.

Shop # 3 I can't get to it until may/june and I'm not doing anything but a complete overhaul. Just doing the top end is asking for trouble. Oh by the way.. I'm rebuilding a 3.3 twice now because of a bad batch of GLYCO bearings. I put the engine on the dyno and all the bearings spun. Really right now it's tough to get good parts. I have a hard time getting suppliers that will keep quality parts. I have to drill them about where everything is made, I absolutely DO NOT PUT PARTS THAT ARE MADE IN CHINA in any engine I build and now my suppliers are carrying parts made in china.. By the way all the stuff coming from pelican parts.. Made in CHINA..

Tony call me back about may/june

This coming from a master 930 engine builder who has probably built a 100 + 930 engines over the last 30 years.

Shop # 4 is very very qualified and their porsche mechanic/specialist may be one on the best in the nation. I will see what he says tomorrow.
