my spark plug tool is a socket with a swivel and a 3in extension, all welded together.
factory tool is ok, I prefer mine,

fuel could get in there because you may be running rich. when rich, with the pumps running, fuel is injected into the engine even when it is not running.
if doing a cranking test its best to pull the over boost relay in the engine bay.

did you say who did the rebuild?
durabuilt did mine. cant go wrong with them. (7006).
i did a rebuild on mine first. i had a good rebuild kit but the bearings did not fit as good as the old ones,. same issue as you. oil puking out everywhere.
i don't regret the effort because i learned a lot.
your neighbors will enjoy the massive smoke screen from the oil in the muffler. it took about 30 minutes before it got better. and i even tried cleaning the oil out first.

scavenge pump test best done like quarto did,

i don't have any vent line on my catch can.

you have had a tough time of it. hang in there.
