Common understanding of matching numbers is the car still has the engine and the tranny it was delivered with from the factory. You cannot tell for sure unless you have the COA, which is expensive and often full of mistakes, or the Kardex, which IMHO is only available for cars until model year 69/70. But if engine and tranny are period correct and the car runs well, who cares?
