Gear Shift Selector Lever Lights

The lights showing what gear I'm in on the gear shift lever for my automatic transmission no longer correspond to the gear I'm driving in. In Reverse D,4,3,2 light up; R shows on the Dash. In Neutral 4,3,2 light up; N shows on the dash. In fourth gear 3 & 2 light up; 4 shows on the dash.

This happened suddenly. Everything runs fine.

Hello, welcome to the forum. First off, what kind of car do you have and what year, that will help diagnose your problem.

I did some checking with the local BMW service techs and they think it's the indicator switch at the shift handle. The part number is 51-16-8-196-166 and it costs about 56.00. That's the
most likely source of the problem.
Keep us posted on the situation.
