Motor Swap: Phase 1

It's unfortunate I don't have the time to install the motor and tranny myself in my own garage. It's also unfortunate that I have no idea how to even begin to do this. So I'll leave the heavy lifting to the professionals, for the time being, which is exactly where I took this motor.

I like my shop. It's just untidy enough to feel homey but organized to the point that you know it's not a crapshow. Plus, I've had good experiences with them in the past with my Targa. As all good shops go, they are not cheap. But they stand behind their work and are cool people which works for me. They're not a race shop, but they know racing and the best ways to get HP out of your motor. I like them because they seem particularly in tune (pardon the pun) with people who like their Porsche very trackable but at the same time street reliable.

Anyway, I dropped off the motor, tranny, ECU etc. at the shop today. Found a few worn out hoses on the motor at a quick glance in the day light which was a bit of a bummer since I was under the impression that this was good to go. The muffler's in worse condition than I was hoping, too. So I'll likely be looking for one of those soon.

After talking to the lead mechanic at the shop (Ryan, very cool guy), I'm WAY more confident in my decision to minimize spending on this new (3.2L) motor I just picked up and focus the vast majority of funds on getting the original 3.3 Turbo BACK in that engine bay as soon as possible. Ryan suggested some very practical and cost effective things I could do to that motor to get the HP closer to 400 than I expected. As we got to talking turbo rebuild strategy (that I plan to do myself by hook or by crook), I became the owner of a lightly used 1-in-2-out FabSpeed BADASS muffler they had laying around upstairs in the "mezzanine." More motivation, as if I needed it.

And lastly: The list of Pelican Parts started arriving today, which is exciting. License plate lights and turn signal lens make it legal. Steel braided brake lines make it stop. Baby steps.
