I've also made carbon fiber rain hats. I will be making a carbon fiber Targa top soon. I also intend to find out how much weight the rear bumper can lose if I make it out of CF.

Now almost a Porsche expert

I've had my 1977 Targa for almost 3 years now. I've had it all apart...engine, body, transmission, suspension, electricals...you name it I went there. I've paid our sponsor Pelican Parts lots of well spent Porsche rebuild money. Did most of it myself...a lot of it twice when I goofed and got it wrong the 1st time. I had an automotive electrician re-wire the whole car using the same color coding. I made my own air condition system which is needed in my hot climate.

A little rust on the outside = BAD on the inside!

I'm tearing into the front suspension pan now. I started removing stone guard and assessing what needs to be done. I noticed a little "cake" around one of the A arm mounts on the suspension pan:



That, along with a couple pin holes next to the tow hook leads me to believe the pan is gone. Yup:

Belly of the pan = swiss cheese under the stone guard. My guess it's...

Slippery slope! The parts list grows...

OK, there simply isn't much more I can take off the body! The suspension? Out! Engine? Out! Glass? Out! Steering? Out! Car is now on my rotisserie.

The only things on the chassis are ducting and wiring. Some of the ducting comes off when I start cleaning up the rear axle area.


So, these are the things I noticed during dismantling. Matt and I had to cut one of the tie rods...
