The wife drives an '04 330i sedan with 70k miles. This car has had amazing reliability so far, nearly flawless.
I had to add ground wires to the tail lights because of a poorly designed plug on the tail light. Easy, cheap, 20 minutes. Recently had to replace the temperature sensor on the lower radiator hose to fix a coolant leak. $40 at dealer for new sensor because no one sells an O-ring that size in lots of less than 100 O-rings. It has an occasional surging problem, usually on uphill grades, that I have not tracked down yet. Otherwise, it has run like a swiss watch for the first 70k miles, which makes it the best car I have ever owned for that mileage interval. P.S. It occurred to me that "best car I have ever owned" would not be a very impressive statement to most readers of this forum. I am a bit older than most of you. My first vehicle was a '49 Chevy pickup that I got in 1967. I have owned a few vehicles and racked up a couple of million miles. Last edited by Manolito; 03-06-2009 at 05:44 AM.. |

Thank you for your impressions. The baby I was looking at slipped away but I will remain vigilant in pursuing another. I love my E 36 328is (145 K), but it's time for another adventure, that being a 330 coupe shifter. Again, thanks.

Beware of the "no reverse" problem on ZF-equipped automatics. See noreverse.org for more info. Ours went out at 61k miles.

The NHTSA has a good web site that documents both recalls and complaints. I looked through the complaints and ran a few recall searched before purchasing an 01 330ci last fall. So far no issues, and I love the car. As a price comparison I purchased mine from the original owner with 80K on the clock, BMW steel winter wheels with new Blizzacks and a clear carfax for 10K. That was here in Wisconsin. Another good source of information is the other web site link below. Gee, can you tell I am an engineer!? Good luck.

Thank you all for your input. I'm still in the hunt and will get a 330 ci
but it's going to be hard to give up my 98 328is. It's got the spoiler on the trunk which, I believe, adds to a cool sharp look but, it's getting time to move on. Who ever buys the e36 will get a great car. 98 328is 87 blk carrera |
