I recently bought a 2006 330ci with 45k... little old lady driven. Brake light has not come on yet and pads have some life yet. I want to replace the pads early and just have the rotors turned or not at all. Is that ok with a BMW or must I also have the rotors replaced. Don't want to spend money I don't need to. Thanks

If your brake rotors are in spec, you can replace just the pads. Measure them before ordering parts to be sure you get everything you need.

Modern brake rotors are made so thin that machining (turning) has become a lost art. There is not enough 'meat' on the rotors to turn them and still be above minimum thickness. The stated reason is to make modern rotors lighter. Doesn't hurt that this design greatly enhances dealer part counter sales.
