E46 325CI 2001 Gear Service Light

Hi There, I have a BMW E46 325ci 2001, I changed the engine oil & filter few days ago, now I have the Gear Service light on and the car does not take off normal (bit slow obviously it went into a save mode 3rd gear) any idea what caused that sensor to trigger on. Cheers

Two problems that I have read about on the forums:
1) Temperature sensor in the transmission. Apparently a common failure item. Easy to replace while you are servicing the transmission fluid. Diagnosis requires a computer that will talk to the transmission computer. If the temperature reported is not reasonable, that is the problem.

2) Failing battery. On both the e36 and e46, the transmission computer is extremely sensitive to voltage dips and spikes. Transmission misbehavior is often the first symptom of a failing battery.
