Resurrecting a 2002 325ci?

Folks I have a friend who parked his 325ci a year ago, with clogged catalytic converters. These were due to what I assume were worn valve guides which caused excessive oil consumption.

He has a sentimental attachment to the car and would like to see it running again. He understands for less money he could buy a similar car with half the mileage.

I have offered to assist, he is not mechanicay savvy, and I am just handy enough to get us both in trouble :-)

Car is a 2002 model year, 325ci, automatic transmission. 190,000+ miles.

So my question is, what needs to be done to get it going again? Here's my thought:

- drain gas and refill

- new plugs

- marvel mystery oil, spoonful in each cylinder to free things up

- new brake fluid, probably new pads, maybe lines

- drain and flush coolant

- new cats (any problem with genetic magnaflows? This doesn't have to be a perfect OEM solution, just needs to run well)

- jump start

We know a used engine from a different car is likely going to be necessary, but for now we just want to get it going and see how good or bad it is.

Anything else? Anything on the list above that may not be necessary? I could use any feedback on this project.

Thanks

-Glenn
