Steering Noise
I have an '01 330ci that has recently developed a noise in the steering which sounds like something is rubbing between the tire and the fenderwell. The noise is worse at slow speeds and non-existant traveling straight. Suggestions?

Are you just describing the sound or do you think maybe something is rubbing the tire?
Start by checking you power steering fluid level.

There is nothing rubbing on the tire, that was the first thing I checked. And it occurs turning in either direction. I check the fluid and it looks decent in terms of color and amount.

Does the noise change when you rev the engine? (testing may require using neutral if you are in an automatic)
My guesses would be the belt, tensioner or pump. If its the pump I would leave it until it gets worse.

In my opinion it can be:
-Ball joint, left/right -(Remanufactured hydro steering gear) |

If it turns out to be noise from the pump, check the color of the fluid. If it is getting dark, just changing the fluid may quiet down the pump. It worked for me.
