E90 M3 help please
Guys/Gals: I will be honest, most of my time is spent on the air-cooled porsche section of this fine website, but I have had a serious eye on a 2010 M3, with 85k Miles....as a somewhat daily driver... and I can admit I am out of my element. Knowing that, I brought the car to a bmw specialist for a PPI before I made my decision. All was going well, the basics of computer checks, framework, fluids, shifting, power, etc.... but he had a guy that specialized in M’s across town and wanted to get his take on the ‘10 v8 engine. Immediate response was it’s going to need rod bearings and throttle actuators within the next 15k. So... after doing my own research.... every jackleg on the internet has an opinion on it...and the prices range from reasonable to absurd. I figured that I get sage advice out of the porsche folk on pelican... so why not turn to the BMW side and see where they can help.
-is rod bearing failure a systemic issue with the E90? - same goes for the throttle actuators -what is a good estimate to fix respectively? I’ve heard 2500 for actuators, and anywhere from 2500 to 8000 for the rod bearings. I do appreciate any help... cheers! |

Not certain about the throttle actuators but if the forums are buzzing with complaints I'd say it's a good bet!
Most any BMW shop worth their salt has taken in a seized or knocking V8 E90 M3 with bad rod bearings there may even be a manufacturer wide recall on the shells not certain but have seen many EBay ads for E90's with blown or about to go V8's .. Actually bought a near new M5 S62 DOHC motor a few years back and before I could get it running had to pull and replace a good number of the rod bearings that just seemed to loose to let it go. If you can't do even some of the work yourself it could turn into a loosing proposition very quickly .. Bert
