Help with wheels
New member here starting out with a pretty non-technical question...
I bought a 1998 528 with about a year ago. The car has 17" Alpina rims on it and it had some pretty bad curb rash when I bought it. The guy also was running 255/40/17 in the back and 235/45/17 in the front, causing some pretty sick inside tire wear...And I'm due for 4 new tires all around. But my question is about the rims. I was washing my car last weekend and had some pretty high pressure water on the rims and the silver coat just started peeling off. I lost about a 4 by 1 inch piece on one wheel and a little smaller piece on the other. I have never seen this before, so I have a couple questions. 1) Is this common for wheels with curb rash. I have had curb rash before, and I've never seen this type of peeling. 2) Could this peeling be due to the wheels being fake Alpina's? 3) I need to get 4 new rims to run a consistent 235/45/17 all around...Does anyone have any tips on looking for decent quality replica BMW wheels (I just don't have the $ to spend on OEM wheels right now)? I appreciate the help. Ozzy911 (Name derived from the other car) |
