'02 525 Touring Performance
Hi All,
I'm new to this board and just picked up a '02 525i Touring (wagon) with a manual transmission. Fuel economy is much better than I had thought, combined with a 18.5 gallon fuel cell its the perfect "road trip" car with a range of over 420 miles! But I have one complaint, the pick up isn't all that impressive. Its not bad, but not good. At highway speeds or revolutions above 3k, the pickup is adequate. This is my first BMW, I was wondering if anyone on this board can recommend any upgrades to help with increasing torque and what shops can/will performs these upgrades in South Orange County, CA. Thanks.

last week I had a performance chip put in my 95 525i. The car now screams. It really is like a different car. my 525 is also a 5 speed which helps out a bit. The chip is made by a shop here in sacramento. I bring my 911 to these guys and they know their stuff. The best part is that it cost only $200 and I got 20 more HP and 18 lbs of torque.
If your interested pm me and I'll send you the name and number. b |

Wouldn't it be "software upgrade" other than "chip upgrade" for 00 model year?

Call Schwartz and Krum at 916-381-3144 and ask about their custom chipsets for BMW's. Perhaps you can buy it COD and install yourself, it doesn't appear too difficult and instructions can be found at this web-site http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main.htm
good luck b |

I don't think so. I picked up 20 more HP and 18 lbs of Torque with just replacing the chip. $200 bucks for 20 HP is a deal in my book. The only down side is that you have to always run 91 octane fuel but you probably do that anyway.

911novice,
Thanks for the info, I can't tell where you are but I hope you in Orange County, CA. I take it from your member name that you also own a 911. I'm also looking for a shop for my 996. If you are located near me, I would like to get to know your shop for both my cars.

Sorry, I'm in northern ca and so is the shop. I do have a 911 and suggest you ask pbs911 (member of this board) who he suggests. He lives in Orange County and can be trusted for good advise. I installed his sc engine in my p-car last year and he should be able to help you out. Hope this helps.
