Need some guidance
 

I have an '89 535i 5 speed with a few hundred thousand on her and am in need of some assistance with a couple of problems.

1. When the ignition is off I can hear what sounds like a short behind the dash and the idiot lights (abs, check engine) are dimly lit.

On occassion the factory phone speaker emits a steady crackling sound.

Obviously she now sits until I can get some guidance on this project as it will drain the battery if I don't unhook it.

I am now electrical guru but I am pretty good with the DIY stuff on the 911.

2. I have a notable exaust leak coming from the first section of exhaust. What do you guys recommend for some noise?

Any help out there?
