How to do a compression check?

Does anyone have tips/advice/articles on doing a quick compression check on a E39 BMW 5-series?

I know how to do it on a Porsche, but not exactly sure about the 5-series.

Same procedure.

Follow the same steps as with the Porche. Good luck! - Marvin
