Pelican Parts OBD-II ScanTool now available!

Now you can diagnose your OBD-II controlled vehicle all by yourself! Using the Autoenginuity ScanTool, you can now check for fault codes and monitor your entire engine management system using a laptop, Palm Pilot, or Pocket PC. For more details, check out the ScanTool's capabilities here, or read Wayne's latest technical article.

That is a nice unit, I've been looking at a unit to use with my PalmV.
Yours is lower in price and seems to do the same.
Hmmmmm, now how can I hide this from the wife?

Walt,
95 is the last yr of OBD, 96 was the first yr of OBDII.

See this:

My wife's car is '99 328ia, her car is definitely OBD II - the question is will a OBD II Scan tool work on an OBD I car, if that is indeed what my '95 is?

I will be working on her car also after March '05 when it goes out of warranty.

is anybody going to answer my question?

I have two(2) cars a '99 328ia
and a '95 525ita

If i were to buy the OBD II scan tool - I can see from the ad and other articles that it will do diagnositics and resetting
of oil and maintenance lights on the '99 3 series.

But, will it do anything on the '95 5 series ?
for instance
1) will it read codes instead of using the gas pedal method
2) will it monitor any engine activities, ie. O2
3) will it reset maintenance lights

I received this back from "Jay Horak" at autoenginuity.com
concerning use of their scan tool for my needs.

--"We won't reset oil and service interval lights--only the MIL. The former are BMW only--not OBDII. Now on the '95 it has no OBDII connector and won't work at all. The E34s require a Peake tool or CarSoft. The E39 5 series was the first OBDII complaint vehicle."--

Jay's response was to my inquiry
comments: I am considering purchasing your OBD II Scan Tool.
I have two(2) cars a '99 BMW 328ia and a '95 BMW 525ita

If i were to buy the OBD II scan tool - I can see from the ad and other articles that it will do diagnositics and resetting
of oil and maintenance lights on the '99 3 series.

But, will it do anything on the '95 5 series ?
for instance
1) will it read codes instead of using the gas pedal method
2) will it monitor any engine activities, ie. O2
3) will it reset maintenance lights

So the scan tool is not backwards compatible and it does not take care of service lights.
