idle control valve

How do you check the parameters of the idle control valve for the 533i? It make good clicking noises but the idle is still loopy between 600-1250 upon cold start up. Any suggestions?

Per the Bentley manual, you should read about 10 ohms across the two terminals. Jumper 12 volts across the two terminals. The valve should close when 12 volts is applied and open when you remove the voltage. If this is OK I would clean the ICV with carb cleaner and see if that helps. A lot of times it is just dirty from years of use.

Check every vacuum hose connection, the oil dipstick and the intake boot between the AFM and the throttle body for leaks. Vacuum leaks are the most common cause of erratic idle on the M30 engines.

spent all day tidying up sister in laws Dae Woo. Pounded out some dents, changed all fluids and anything else suspicious like the hose that crumbled when I touched it. They don't even use real hose clamps!!--Can't wait to stick my nose into the five series tomorrow for some THERAPY!
