A/C Belt

Temperature finally got warm enough to use the AC for the first time this year, but when I turned it on it squealed like a stuck pig. I shut it down and tried it again 10 minutes into the ride and it was fine. Next day, exact same experience. Do I have a bad tensioner pulley? The A/C belt is has much more play in it than the Accessory belt. I don't think there is any way to adjust the tension...is there?

Thanks

Beerguy

You might. Have either one of them ever been changed? The grease in the pulley bearings does dry out over time and bearings DO fail. What kind of condition are the belts in? An old hard belt can slip and squeal. If the tensioners/belts have over 30k miles on them, I suggest replacing both tensioners, all the pulleys, and the belts. Good insurance. Go to www.realoem.com with the last 7 digits of the VIN and take a look under engine/belt drive. That's main group 11, subgroup 18

Hi. Thank you for the guidance. I actually had the drive belt pulleys replaced a few months back, they were rattling and definitely bearings were shot (I didn't have the time or tools to do it) and at that point the AC one seemed OK. Visually the belt looks OK but I'll know more when I get underneath this weekend and take a better look. There is only the one tensioner pulley on this (per diagram) isn't there? I may have the wrong diagram. Anyway, it seems like that should be easier to get to than the drive pulleys.

I am going to order the parts for this job....do I assume I will need the pulley only (item 5) or the tensioner (item 4) as well...or will I be able to tell once I get in there? Any guidance would be appreciated....
