help please im having major problems with my 5 series

hello everyone my names gary im the proud owner of a 1998 r plate bmw 523, ive had some problems with the car overheating, this boiled (excuse the pun) down to the head gasket. As the car has done well over 100000 miles i thought it would be a good investment to replace the complete engine. This is a bit tricker than i thought it was going to be partly because the engine i managed to source was from 325 coupe on an 03 plate, the problem is im not to sure that this engine will go as it has a double vanos unit and the orignal engine only has the single vanos, this has left me scratching my head a little and would be gratefull of any advice anyone has to offer thanks. | ||

Gary: If you have over 100k there should be no reason to replace that engine yet. You have what the BMW considers normal problems. New radiator and expansion tank, water pump and thermostat with housing should have solved those problems. But now is more compound. Make sure that the head was damaged. If so, remove the head and take it to a reputable shop. And you will have a "new" and happy engine. Have someone help you as you need some special tools. Take care, Jose
