7 fault codes - where do I start?
The service engine soon light on my wife’s 2002 525i came on as she was driving to work. She noticed it felt a bit sluggish after the light came on. When I read the codes I got 7 of them! They were:
76 Throttle position sensor 1, plausibility, range, or performance BD PreCat Oxygen sensor heating during regulation, Cyl 4-6 E4 Oxygen sensor adaptation limit, Cly 4-6 C6 Catalytic converter efficiency, Cly 1-3 E3 Oxygen sensor adaptation limit Cly 1-3 FA Functional check purge valve I am guessing it is not the oxygen sensors or the cat. To have two sensors and the cat fail simultaneously seems odd. It almost seems that the car is trying to compensate for the real problem by adjusting the fuel/air mixture but can’t. Bad gas or could it be the purge valve? What does this do, where is it and how can I check it? We are going on a long (1200 miles round trip) in two days and would like to know that we am not going to get stuck by the side of the road. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! 02 525i 98 323is 74 MB 450SL |
I wold reset the codes because the TPS and the Purge Valve code sometimes show up every few months even though there is no problem. After reset, drive it around and see what comes back.
