1992 525i; Another Noob, looking to buy; Would like advise
Hi all.
I am usually lurking on the Porsche forum, I own a 1984 Porsche 928, so this is my first visit to the BMW side of the forum. Be nice :p I am looking at purchasing a 1992 525i, I am dealing with a non-car savvy owner who knows only what the mechanic tells her. The major issue on this car is that upon driving it, she says the car will all of a sudden stop moving, as in the engine is running, but pressing the throttle will not make the car move, it just sits there. If you shut down the engine and then re-start it will once again move for a few miles, then all of a sudden stop in mid motion, as the throttle will not make the car move. From what I can tell, she says an over the phone diagnosis from a mechanic is the tranny............. She also said that adding tranny fluid seemed to make things better for time.........but does not know if it has a leak? Have any of you guys experienced this problem before? Does it sound like a Tranny? Any input you might have would be very helpful. Thanks guys! Shawn 84' Porsche 928S 74' Triumph TR6 some daily daily drivers!!!!! |
I cant think of anything else it could be. It's either the tranny or the torque converter.
Does it happen at any speed (gear)? Does it still do it if she puts it in "2" or "1"? My guess is a gear is out in the tranny. |
