GPS monitor repairable?

Hi folks, I'm new to this board-just ordered some parts for my '98 540Sport. It's been a great car-I bought it as a CPO with 7000miles. It's fully optioned and the navigation screen went out about a week or so ago. The nav. system hasn't been working properly for nearly a year, which I accept. It worked for 10 years and I'm not spending the huge $$ to repair this early system. I would like to have the monitor working though to see radio & computer displays. The dealer list for this LCD monitor is 1800.00! The manager of the parts dept. thinks there may be some outfits that can repair this monitor. Does anyone know about this? Thanks for your help!
