Trailing arm bushing tool
 

Bought the PEL-TOL-3027 trailing arm bushing tool and a couple sets of bushings. I'm usually capable of figuring out how is tool is supposed to used (along with the wrong ways) but this one is perplexing:

Is the tool on the right of the bushing supposed to push it thru the arm? Since it's 6 m/m larger in diameter (50 vs 44) I kinda doubt it. Just using the clamp pushing on the bushing will tear the rubber and leave the sleeve behind. Is it possible the tool has the wrong part for these bushings?

The gears are turning slower but I figured out that the tool was designed to support the new bushing as it pushes the old bushing thru the trailing arm :rolleyes:

Just add heat to the surrounding metal and hope it comes loose before the clamp is broke.

Now that the clamp is broke & bent, nothing is turning. I was kinda surprised that even with heat nothing budged at all. Time to find another...

Drilled out tool to pass 1/2" threaded rod thru - breaker bar & torch still couldn't budge the bushing. Gonna pull the caliper & lines to try a 12-ton press next.

The 1/2" threads were filed down enough (almost like ACME threads) to pass thru a 12 m/m bushing and even thought the extra long machined nuts were full thread depth I double-nutted them for the bearing surface.

Last post - even my 300+ lb/ft torque wrench (takes the nut off the crankshaft) couldn't budge the bushing and the arm won't fit in a Harbor Fright 12-ton press.

I'd say "pass" on buying the tool and doing this job yourself, IMHO.
