Can't open the glass hatch on our touring car

Hi I can't open the rear glass hatch on our newly purchased BMW 5 series Touring car..

I knew that when i bought it I was hoping it was a simple ish fix..

The car is 2002 I can see a switch under the wiper housing that makes total sence it's for opening the glass section but does not work

Any tips hints of interest please let me know

Lock actuator fuse?
Or maybe it is out of adjustment. See e39 Bentley pp. 412-22 to 23. It tells you how to adjust the locking pin.
When tailgate on wife's Subaru would not open, I pulled the cover off the latch mechanism and sprayed lubricant into it, and it has worked ever since.

The switch maybe bad or if it is like mine you have to squeeze like hell to get it to work.

I hope that when you had it apart that you lubed the wiper shaft with grease that will save you problems later on, most peple replace the assembly but if you go through the disassemble you can just clean and regrease.
