530i car stereo

Hey Guys,
yesterday I removed my old anolog pioneer cassette player from my 1976 530i. It is located very low on the console very close to the auto gear shift lever. My question is, what kind of CD player options do I have? There does not seem to be alot of room to fit a modern radio in there. I don't think you can put a CD while the car is in park because interferences with the lever What kind of systems work the best. Everything in my car is pretty stock. The front speakers look stock and the speakers under the rear seats look like 5 1/2". I appreciate any suggestions.

Have you considered one of the CD-Changers that fit in the trunk? I've got one in my '88 truck, and they work and sound great. Relatively easy install too!
