2002 525i losing 1 quart of oil per month????????????

Hi everyone,

A friend of mine have a 2002 BMW 525i that is losing a quart of oil every month; and his machanic said "it is normal for the 525 to lose a quart of oil every month". The car have a standard transmission. There is no sign of external oil leakeage. Other than the oil issue, the car runs great and get 31mpg.

So I told my friend I would check into it with Pelicanheads for help. If you guys have any information regarding why the 525i is losing oil and would like to share it. I would really be appreciate.

This may be normal depending on the miles per month your friend drives.
If the car is driven over 1000 miles per month its not unusual to see a quart useage. Any thing less than 500 miles per month is excessive. In between 500 and 1000 is questionable.
