N55 Engine Swap
Hello All,
My 535i is sitting at just under 65k miles. The vehicle is like new inside and out. The only issue is that the engine threw a rod just before Christmas. I have a small goodie bag with bits of cylinder head, oil pan, bolts, and other fun items that decided were more at home outside of the engine than inside. This happened on the interstate using cruise control. The question I have is where I can source a used or new engine? There seems to be very few for sale on the market. At least in the US. Of course, Germany has many offerings but limited international shipping. The quote I have for BMW to replace the engine was around $23,600. The local independent service companies seem to be a little scared of an engine replacement and are reluctant to quote at all. Thoughts? Advice? Anyone need a 535i shell? Going from an E46 M3 to an F10 535i; I am not completely in love with the vehicle and was wanting to trading it back for something more sporty (like a 3-series or another M-car) which adds a little reluctance to sink in more money to this thing. |

I would focus on a new car or project - for $10k more, you can essentially get a 'new' 535i. I don't think it's worth investing that much, since you're not in love with the car to begin with. Cut your loses and get into something that you really love. Just my 2 cents, let us know if you have any questions or need any advice.
