Angry Check engine at redline

I have a couple (maybe related) engine problems on my '95 540i

One is that if I turn my engine off and then back on before it gets to normal operating temp. The idle is fine (500-600 steady,) but the idle won't compensate when I shift into a gear and the motor will either die or drop to around 300 and have a hard time maintaining that. At 300-400 the torque converter seems to be more engaged when this happens too.

I've been working on that for awhile, but my real question is. With the engine warm if I accelerate (WOT button pushed, automatic) and get to red-line the engine will cut out and buck; also the check engine light will flash (no code.) This will happen lower than red-line in certain cases: low ambient temp, low engine temp, moons aligning, etc.

I'm thinking fuel filters, but does anyone have an idea where to start?
