I have an E28 M5, which I purchased new in January 1989 and completely rebuilt by San Diego M-Car guru Frank Fahey in 2001. Alpine CD player, new leather front seats, Fikse FM5 wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport tires, Dinan 850 front brake setup, Dinan sway bars, Frank Fahey shock tower strut and suspension setup with zero understeer, BMW Euro header, balanced and blueprinted motor, Quaiffe Limited Slip Differential, Blonde Sport short shift kit, stainless steel brake lines, new clutch and radiator this year, BMW European rubber floor mats. Added Frank's recommended headlight upgrade and removed the automatic load leveling in the rear. I drive it every day, everything works and it runs well. Almost 170,000 miles on it including about 70,000+ miles on the rebuild. All documentation. I have not listed it for sale, but I may have what you are looking for. Call me at 501.258.7880 if you want to discuss.

New leather upholstery on the front seats.
![]() You should understand. This is not a car I have thought about selling, but if you are interested in paying a finders fee to find one, I have your car. This is the opposite of a garage queen. I bought this car new and have driven it every week for almost 24 years. Instead of buying a new M3 in 2001, I sent it to Frank Fahey and he did everything to it he could do. My wife said "You have the money and love your car, do it." It may be difficult to remember, but this is when the world was young, the Internet era, pre-911, pre Bush and Obama. That shock tower stabilizer bar is a $1700 fab job. It does not have a stroker motor, a nitrous rig, or a turbo, but Frank did everything else. As Frank told me, "It is not my track setup, but it is leaning that way." Call Frank if you like. He knows me and will remember the car. It has 70,000 miles on the rebuild and I don't expect to recover the value of it, but I will send you a copy of the invoice and you can see what it cost. A demo M3 might have been cheaper. Frank Fahey is one of the leading M-Car shops on the West Coast. The car has never been in a garage. It has not been tracked since 1995, so no track time on the rebuild. It could use an M badge for the front drivers seat (as you can see in the photo), a little touch up paint as indicated, and if you wanted it perfect, you might repaint the trunk lid and fix a couple of parking lot dents. I have repaired everything as it needed it, so much that it drives my wife crazy. Clutch, throwout bearing, radiator, both front seat window motors for $800 apiece, steering bushings and related links, etc. That is just in the past couple of years. No deferred maintenance. Frequent oil changes. Same mechanics for my entire ownership. You can get them on the phone. This is my daily driver and it is a few years old and has some miles, but it is not a beater. Far from it. Everything works and it is more fun to drive than my 997 Carrera 4S. I last drove it yesterday. It is an enthusiast automobile which should go to a good home and I am happy to discuss it with you and send you the documentation if you are serious. 501.258.7880. If you want a low mileage garage queen, good luck with that. Last edited by sclemmons; 05-20-2012 at 04:15 PM.. |
