Radiator Hose
Hi Guys
Wifes just come back, car smells of burning rubber. Closer inspection shows the water pump pulley has rubbed thro the bottom rad hose at the thermostat housing end! My question is if anyone has an E23? if they could have a look and see if the water pump pulley really should be that close to the hose? Or indeed if the thermostat housing has been put on 90 Degrees out (Looks possible) - Just found a pic on ebay thermostat housing looks correct. Wrong size water pump pulley? Water pump collapsed ? Need to look when its stopped pi**ing down Many Thanx Tony -- |

Yes the hose is that close.
Normally the belt starts to loosen up and will slap into the hose. Other times the hose will swell from pressure and if the hose id fatigued it will contact the pulley. When you install the new hose, attach it to the thermostat housing first and then attach to the radiator. Then before you tighten the lower clamp gently pull the middle of the hose out towards the fender well till the hose has adequate room. This will help to keep the hose away from the pulley in the future. Just had to go through this routine twice this week due to a frayed belt. Good luck
