M635 415TRX tires and wheels

I have read many many postings on how awful the 415TRX wheels and tires are.

A personal observation.

I have run 240/45 415 TRX tires and wheels on my M635 for about 17 years now. The original V rated version of this tire was very noisy, had poor traction and poor mileage. Then about 16 years ago they went to the Z rated version. These tires only lasted 15k miles max but otherwise seemed ok (unless it was wet out). Then about 5 years ago a big change occured and the tire became quiet, handled very well, and lasted over 25k miles. Altogather I put about 190k miles on the TRX tires. Then about one month ago I found that the rear two rims were cracked (turns out it was due to a tow operator putting straps thru the wheels to hold it down to a flat bed tow truck.) In any case I had to buy new rims. I put Yokohomas 255/40/ZR17 on the rims. Terrable, tires. Ride was harsh, traction poor. After 3 or 4 days I could not stand it anymore and replaced the Yokos with Michelan (sp??) 255/40 ZR17 Pilot Sports. The Michelans are good, ride is excellant, traction ok, just about the SAME as those supposidly bad old Michelan 415 TRX tires, and the price was the same as well!!!

Well people WHAT GIVES??? were the 415 TRX, 30 year old technology tires so bad after all? My conclusion is that the latest Mich Pilot Sports are EXACTLY the same as the newest Michelan 415 TRX tires (possible exception is wet handling).

Anyone else had any of the same experience?

PS I now have 2 good 415TRX rims for sale and 2 that are repairable, anyone interested please email me.

I tried Pirellis on a 633 I had. The thing I noticed about them is that the slip angle is very very small. IN other words in a hard corner the tires would give absolutely NO warning that they were about to break loose.

Have you noticed this with your tires?
