88 735IL Drivers side Parking Light Issue

Recently purchased a very nice '88 735IL. The car runs great, but I am having an issue with the drivers side parking/running lights.

All the lights will work fine. After 1 to 5 minutes, the lights on all the lights on the drivers side will go out. The fuse is good and 12VDC is present even if the lights are out. If the lights are shut off for a few moments, they will come back.

Could this be trouble with the light module, or does someone have a wiring diagram they could scan for me???

Thanks in advance.

Jim

Thumbs up

After a little bit of searching on Pelican, a link to this web site was found:

http://www.bmwe34.net/e34main/maintenance/electrical/LKM.htm

The article talks about the LKM (Light Kontrol Module) and a Mustard Coloured Relay. The park/tail lights function via the Mustard Coloured Relay. The relay was removed from the fuse box and then the 2 relays in side of the MCR were resoldered. Problem solved.

Parking Lights

The parking Light Relay (mustard colored) in the power distribution box under the hood is a frequent problem as the solder joints separate. These joints can be resoldered or for about $35.00 you can buy a new relay. Also, the electrical connector at the parking light bulb holder has a tendency over time to deteriorate, I had to make a new one using male/female bullet style connectors to keep my light on.
