lost first and reverse
 

COming home from a road trip (Vintageatthevineyards)
My 1985 635csi lost reverse and first gear (5 sp dogleg)
I fisrt thought it was some shifting (engine or center bearing but both seem sound.
Am I in for a new trans or is it just linkage ....

Check the oil in the trans for any excessive metal... that might give you a bit of an idea. The linkage is pretty easy to deal with on these cars and if you have a lot of wear on the shift lever bearing or a problem with the streight selector rod then that might be it. However, if I remember correctly, I do not believe that there is any internal link between 1st and and reverse. Do you know if yours is a Getrag 280? Is reverse to the left and up?
