88 750iL Pass front door lock inop

Dear Fellow 7 ers,

I hope someone can help. I have a first year 750iL and it suffered a small electrical fire in the d/s rear seat electrical spaghetti area. After a donor box and central door lock RM ctrl unit I was able to get it all working again and it has been trouble free for two years.

Until now the pass side frt door lock won't lock when trying to lock the car. All other door locks pull down and open on command. When I manually lock the pass side after locking the car I can get the whole car to unlock from the pass side key, but it still won't re-lock the car or itself from the pass door when key turned in pass lock.

So what I have done so far....

Replace P/S door lock motor, replace RM ctrl unit, remove and jiggle harness at d/s rear seat electrical area.

I am debating whether to get a wiring diagram or just chalk it up to age and get used to things just breaking and not get fixed due to complexity. Sounds like life?

Thanks for any hope,

Mark

Door locks

Often it s the door lock solenoid support bracket that has cracked and allowed the solenoid to become mis-aligned. Go to http://bmwe32.masscom.net
this is Johan and Sean's site and covers the door lock issue as well as many other fixes on your car.

Fixed it! Now have another problem!

Thanks for your help Bear. I was able to fix it by removing the latch mechanism and repairing the linkage from the door lock motor to the latch. It had one of those little plastic grommets that had worn through and was to sloppy. It now can be locked with confidence.

The only thing left is the hiccup in the motor. Every thirty seconds or so, the motor instantaneously skips and then smooths right out. almost like it drops the ignition for a moment.

What I have done so far, change the plugs, ouch! checked for arcing wires, at night and with the ear test to hear if they are arcing to the motor, they were changed once before. Changed out the MAF sensors on both banks. Pulled the two position sensor connectors off at the frt of the motor one at a time to isolate the offending bank. On the right side one I had the car stumble and run lousy. When I pulled off the left side it made no difference the engine ran smooth.

Are the sensor connectors on the frt of the motor coresponding with the bank they are on or do they criss cross? If so which bank is bad? Where would you start?

Thanks for all your help.
Mark

BMW 750

I believe the MAF are cross wired in that left side serves the right and right left. Go back to the website I gave you and look at the engine controls this may help.
