10/88 735ial
Hi, first time on this forum. Could someone please give me some info about a BMW I am looking at? The door sticker indicates it was made 10/88 and the model shows it to be a 737IAL. I have not really been able to find any info on this. I have found info on the 735IL but not the 735IAL. What is the difference between the two of them? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Nice cars but pricey to maintain. I owned a 11/87 build date 750 for four years and had to do a lot of maintenance (as would be expected on a car that old). PS pump/alternator/front control arm bushings/driveshaft and all struts (the rear are called LAD and are hydraulic dampening and I bought them online for about $350.00 each). The braking system and load leveling as well as the PS is all hydraulic (no pneumatic boost for brakes) and work off of the PS pump with nitrogen cylinder(bomb) as emergency backup for brakes. The systems worked well no issues and the car was a great turnpike cruiser with fue economy at 70mh-75mph at about 21.0mpg and 14.0mpg city. Not trying to scare you off but just let you know one owners experience.

First thing to do is buy a Bentley manual for this car.

I have the Bentley E32 manual coming, and I am waiting for my BMW factory service manuals, on CD to get here. I am a Bentley Manual Groupie, the first one I bought was from the VW dealer when I bought my new 1979 German imported, Diesel Rabbit, and have been hooked on them ever since. I am usually on the Porsche 911 Forums, and the BMW is the latest addition to the stable, so I will be checking here on the BMW Forums for all the info I can get. Thanks a lot.

I did get your PM. hereare a couple fo sites you might like:
http://www.nmia.com/~dgnrg/page_2.htm http://www.e38.org/e32/ The first site is Don Gales and deals mostly the 735 (E32) but a lot of that stuff applies to our 750s as well. The second site is a mix of many fixes for the 750. Enjoy. |
