I have been having a problem with my 1991 735i E32. The problem has been intermittent and displays "TRANS PROGRAM". This of course puts the car in 3rd gear only. I have been able to clear this massage in the past by stopping and restarting the car, this sometimes takes several attempts. I had my car scanned for fault codes which are reported in cars memory. The fault code which has come up is "Trouble Code 5" This points to the Electronic Throttle Control (EML) indicating that it did not get the correct signal. This code convinced me to replace the this Throttle Switch, so I am told. I have researched this issue in the past and found information pointing to the Transmission control module (TCU) or ECU. My mechanic was fairly convinced that the problem was pointing in the direction of the EML however so we followed his experience. Now that we replaced this switch the fault is on constantly, I am bound by decorum not to express my true feeling on this issue here. ![]() In this process we checked the wiring and it seems to be spotless clean and in good order. I am looking for ad vice obviously on how to proceed. I can't imagine that this issue has not reared its ugly head somewhere else. I am quite good friends with my mechanic however he seems to be out of suggestions. Best Regards Jeff |

TCU or wiring leading to the TCU would be my guess as well but I'm no expert in this area.
