Starter Removal 87' 635csi...

After reading some of the past threads on starter removal I realized that I'm going to lose out on this beautiful day here in N.Y. (50 degree weather) but I do have the 17mm box wrench that came with car and not really looking forward to spend the day in the garage (20 x 30) all by myself. LOL. I just wonder is there an easier way to removal the starter and should I replace it with an E34 starter which I read somewhere it's smaller and easier to work with and has more torque? I'll be in and out today checking for any advise. Thanks to all that has given excellent advise so far, I really enjoy this Forum. Bob.

Question Starter Removal E24 87' 635csi

I've loosen the bolts and the starter i just resting on the frame. LOL Now, Do I disconnect the what seems to be a brake on the driver side close to the firewall and the starter up. Or do I have a way to snake it out from underneath?

Starter Removal E24 87' 635csi

O.K. guys here it goes. After spending seven hours from start to finish I can honestly say "that wasn't fun" but yet easy with a lot of patience. For the next person who attempts the removal of the starter on the 635 here's my addition to an easy fix. 1- Use the 17mm box wrench from the tool kit
2- You can reach both bolts from the top, no need to jack up car and try from underneath.
3- It really takes at awhile if you have a strong back and if you don't, every five minutes will become a coffee break.
So my car is running now, but I really think that an hour and half job.
