E24 Engine Swap

I really like my '87 L6 but the weekend projects getting it going never ends. I was told by an friend to consider an engine swap? He found somewhere an article of an LS1 into a M30 chassis conversion? Can anyone give me good advise of the Pros and Cons in doing such a swap of engines? Has anyone done so with great success and no complaints? Thank for any advise, Bob.

Pros:

Easy power
availability of parts/upgrades
fuel mileage may increase

Cons:

LOTS of work to get it right
need to figure out a way to adapt it to the tranny (Kennedy Engineering?)
clearance issues in engine compartment
wiring
exhaust
chassis re-inforcement for added torque of LS1

Would be a cool car, though.

E24 engine swap

Thank you Jared for your response. Can you tell why I looks so easy from these pics of someone who has done it?

The hardware is the easiest. Problems come with ECU's, wirings etc.
Do you have any experience with DIY? Can you read wiring diagrams? Electronics?
I would stay with original, usually a BMW engine has a long life.

Thank you Shogun, I will keep the original engine, it's just all the litle bugs that pop up every now and then.
