Off topic-BMW 635 csi??

I'm keeping my porsche. My question is if anyone has owned a BMW 635csi, 86-89. I have always loved the looks of this car and am looking to buy one. Any help and comments about the make up of this car would be great.
thanks.

A friend has one. He has complained about fiddly electrics (heater controls, etc.). First generation for a lot of electronic devices, now failing and expensive. Pretty durable otherwise.

I had the previous model for a while (3.0CSi, slightly modified). Performance was about equal. The 3.0 is a lot nicer looking (IMO of course) but just like an early 70s 911 for rust.

I agree about the 3.0csi looking much better. My best friend had one(euro model), I think all the 3.0csi are euro's. Great looking car! My other friends dad had a 633csi when we were growing up. Always loved them since.

The 3.0 CSi was awesome. I'd love to build a "Batmobile" CSL replica out of a beater some day...

I had the pleasure of owning a 1985 635Csi for a couple of years. I agree it is a beautiful car and a pleasure to drive. For a large, long vehicle is handled very well (once I got rid the the metric tires which were horrible and unavailable. I got a set of 17" wheels off a 7-series and put on some Yokahama's; transformed the car.) My biggest complaint was finding a seating position that would work for my frame (6'2"). Never found one that worked and ended up tilting my head to the right to fit it in the sunroof well.
Look up the "Big Coupe Group" on the web. As I remember they were the best web-board with information for the coupes.

If a coupe is your bag, baby, then consider the 220 through 280 series of Mercedes coupes. I have owned one and the build quality and design is like, well, a Porsche!

Cheap too.

2nd that vote for Merceds Benz....

I had a 635, and what it did - if you must, buy an 88 and up, better looking bumper caps. Get used to weird dashbord problems, and self - leveling suspension probs, otherwise cars are pretty solid to approx 200k.

Good cars, esp when lowered on 18's!
