Check panel oil light question
1988 325is m20 e30 check panel oil light has been on for years, what is the purpose of this light?

this light bar is to tell you when you need to change your oil. It is on a timer- something like 3 months- and you are supposed to reset it at your oil change. To reset it without a reset tool you just need a few inches of wire. look at your diagnostic plug- the round one near your icv- and jam the wire in the active holes at 3 o'clock and 6 o'clock. Then put the ignition on click two for ten seconds and you will see the lights reset. It is pretty ghetto but it has worked for me for years. If it doesn't work your SI batteries might be dead. hope this helps.
