Boosting a E21 320i

I'm new to this forum for the simple reason that I don't have a BMW, but I'm interested in buying one. I've been focusing my search mostly on 325's, but I found a good deal on a '82 320i. It's been garaged, though it's been sitting for about two years. Based on specifications for weight and horsepower for the two models, it clearly trails any 325 in the horsepower-to-weight ratio department, but I got to thinking that the shortfall could be overcome using a supercharger and some moderate boost. This leads me to two questions:
1) How much boost would I likely need to eliminate the power gap?
2) Can the short block handle the additional stresses without having to resort to a full teardown?
A little more power would make this car a nice ride in my humble opinion and, with the popular focus seemingly being on E30 and later cars, a rather unique one as well. Any feedback would be appreciated, as I haven't made my purchase yet. Thank you.
