Recall Of Bmw Integrated Brakes In Germany

RECALL OF BMW INTEGRATED BRAKES IN GERMANY

Date: 03/24/06

As you know they said that the ABS only fails on motorcycle trainings. But now they fix this issue - at least in Germany.

Original German Text:

Based on my information it affects all BMW motorcycles with Integrated Brakes, but this is not confirmed. I will post here again if I do have confirmation.

You should either contact BMWNA or NHTSA for information how things are handled in the states.

addendum:

To be exactly: The fix reduces high pressure gradients. It will lengthen the time to build up pressure.

According to my information there is no fix for the residual brakes regardless which model, i.e. a pressure reservoir. That is very bad because the residual brakes caused accidents and frightened riders, but they are legal. As you remember there are at least 80 cases known alone in Germany where the brakes shifted to residuals (inquiry General German Automobile Association). In addition, 27% had issues with the integrated brakes from BMW (inquiry of MOTORRAD magazine)!

This is the German TV-News that caused the "free brake check" for taming the customers and the four pages warning (extension to the manual).

What caused the recent brake recall? The pressure from the KBA (Federal Bureau of Motor Vehicles and Drivers)? The pressure from the German Federal Prosecutor? I don't know. In the TV-News (linke above) they said, BMW dosn't see any reason for recalling the brakes.

But now they do.

Hot Rumor
(4/1/06)

OTL moles, based on internal information from German motorbike journalists, now say that after the usual production break in August we shall see all BMW Motorbikes formerly equipped with Integrated Brakes will be delivered with the long-rumored Continental Teves Brakes. OTL has been on this story for a very long time.

This follows upon the news of German BMW dealers recalling the integral brake bikes for a fix in the hydraulic line. More in the next OTL.

I read the article. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG with brakes. Just ppl like Alex who use them wrong. So now BMW will build bikes w/ brakes that even the uninititiated can use

still dangerous brake-failures

BMW is recalling 80.000 BMW motorbikes with Integrated Brakes because they fix the issue with the ABS-failures (high pressure gradients). There have been accidents and injured riders in the past.

But they didn't fix the issue of brake failures, this is still happening and will still happen in the future!!!
