Question Need some help with measurements and temperature's

I'm mounting some electronics to the bottom of the oil cooler that protrude about a inch bellow it. I know some people in the past have smashed their front fender by mounting lights here...........anyone know how much clearance there is?

Anyone know how hot the outer frame of the cooler gets?(infrared gun)..........will it melt plastic ty-wraps?.......TIA.

Hi Joe,

the very similarly loaded and located oilcooler on my similar displacement duc will not hurt cable ties, other than embrittlement after about 3 years.

Thanks Roger

Now the other problem......When I had the Shock out I measured the distance to contact with a tywrap on the fork leg I seem to have a extra 1/2 " if I subtract wheel travel. I hope it's enough fudge factor............

I remember there being about an inch when I took this photo, shock in place with spring removed.

Oil temperatures that I have seen on various engines have been around 200-230F when run hard, above 240F (in the engine case) resulted in some sort of engine damage. The surface of the cooler should be much cooler than the oil inside the case, so I would expect the surface to be below 200F. You could buy some temperature indicating crayons if you really wanted to know.

What type of top secret gadget are you mounting up there?

I think you would have coil bind with the shock in before it would get that close...........right ............ I hope

Joe,

It is on the bump stop in the photo with the spring removed. It should hit the bump stop before it coil binds, but your results may vary depending on shock brand and preload adjustment.

Thanks for the text I didn't see any when you posted the picture.

I'm mounting some remote radar and laser detector and jamming electronics................I've been very lucky for quite a few years....says DSL.....I'm planning a two week trip in the WV. and BRP area where they make there money on Northern boys like me. This is a pretty stealthy home brew with tie in to my wireless helmet system with music mute and different tones for 4 detector bands. Removable eye level display unit on inside of windshield also.

Wiring up 9pin Din connectors for quick removel is a real pain

Joe, this sounds like a sweet setup... what kind of hardware do you need for a setup like that?

I'm combining some K40 Laser stuff with a Shadow360 with audio tap-offs to go into a 900mhz stereo transmitter also connected to my 20gig HD mp3 player in the smuggler I added a radar detect relay circuit to mute music when detector is triggered. If the winter ever stops maybe I'll get to try it.

Iceblue02

Thats the plan a week around the rally then I'm hooking up with a bunch of the guys from the Buell BB for another week...........

Joe, does it have to be on the fairing? Could it fit on the suspension arm in front of the lower shock mount. I have a horn there without a problem.

thanks but.......

I have a Ohlins shock with remote reservoir it looks like anything mounted near the steering joint might contact the reservoir at compression because of the arc of the telelever.

I can't wait to see this set-up... sounds awesome, all we need now is a deer vaporizer .

Joe, haven't heard of the Shadow360, how'd you settle on that... ability to remote mount? One thing I would make sure of... that you can disable X radar monitoring on the Shadow..... 80-90% of the false signals come through X and it will render the detector useless. I've only seen K, Ka and Laser in our area.

Carlos, I worry more about the sprung weight(the spare tire around my waist).
