Slow Fuel Leak at Fuel Pump Flange (Recall already done)

My new to me R12S has smelled like gasoline since I got it, so I decided to investigate the fuel pump flange that was the subject of the recall a few years back. Sure enough, it is seeping slowly where the female quick release coupling threads into the flange. I can't see any cracks, but I haven't unscrewed the coupling yet because I don't have anything to drain my tank with at the moment. Since the recall fix with the metal ring was already done at some point, am I now forced to buy a whole new pump assembly and flange? Or is there a chance BMW will replace it again in connection with the recall? Otherwise, I've read about folks using JB Weld to repair cracks in the flange rather than dropping $500 on a new pump assembly. Does that basically result in the coupling being glued to the flange permanently?

All the bikes are getting old now.

I'd be hesitant to permanently glue anything that you might give in and want to repair properly later.

I had an F650 Dakar once that had a fuel leak problem right under the seat (where the tank was). Rode it somewhere, smelled gas and took the seat off. There was a major pool of fuel right under me. Cost around $400 to fix that. I think I'd just bought the bike too, so like you it was somewhat irritating. I just bit the bullet and bought the proper parts.

On my 09 1200 GS. The metal collar was done and yet it started leaking on a trip. It turned out the plastic QD that threads into the pump plate was split and that is a very common break point.

I repaired it in the parking lot of an O,Reillys in Colorado until i got back and installed the metal QD fitting.

So if the metal collar's been done, the more likely point of failure is the female QD coupling rather than the flange? I've ordered the metal QD couplings from Beemer Boneyard. Hope that does the trick.

It will be obvious when you back out female QD. The stock plastic units are well known for splitting in the thread valleys where the material is thin and the plastic used in those years had a reaction to ethanol fuel it appears.

The refit collar does not change the threading BTW ,the QD will spin right out. If it has split you may have some of the threaded section break off in the pump plate (mine did) I just took a flat blade screw driver and stuck it into the broken part and twisted that part right out as well.

My 2007 K1200 went the same way years ago easy enough to do just a phaff.

GO to Beemer Boneyard they sell metal replacements Male and Female. You can never glue these way to much pressure on the fitting.

Yep, it's a terrible implementation (plastic!? really!?!?). I also bought the metal equivalents from Beemer Boneyard.
