Mt. Baker ride 5-15-19
Talked to Droptarotter last week about meeting and going for a ride to Mt. Baker. The weather this week had cooled and become overcast but we decided Wed. 5-15-19 looked best. A forecast of low 60s F. and cloudy with rain around 6:00PM turned into a sunny day. We saw 81F. at the base of Baker, best day this week.

Things were promising when I got up and could see Mt.Baker from my house 90+ miles away-

Since each country has its own unique products I took some gifts with me for my Canadian neighbor and a map so he could get back home-

Headed up Hwy 9 to meet Mr. Rotter in Acme, WA. Two very different interpretations of what a barn should look like-

Getting closer-

A very clean R1200S and Mr. Rotter-

Took about an hour to reach the ski area where the road is blocked with snow. Another couple miles of road will open later to Artist Point-

On the way back down the mountain we stopped in to look at Nooksack Falls. It had been 15+ years since I had been to Baker and the falls-

Bidding farewell as he headed back north, eh-

Running south on Hwy 9 everything looked fine with a couple attractive churches in the afternoon sun-

One last sunny shot and then the clouds started closing in around Sedro Wooley-

Near Arlington it started sprinkling but I hate putting on the rain suit. Made it home just before the driveway got completely wet. As I pulled into the shop it finally really started raining-

We were lucky with good weather and it is fun to meet another Pelican. Thanks Bryan for the backroads along the border.

I "spotted" you yesterday...

The scenery in your reports is great. Spring and mountains can't be beat...

You are getting SPOT reports? I have been sending for the last month but none have come to me. Need to get that figured out by July.

That's my old "stompin' grounds"! Your blue route goes right past 3 places I lived
decades ago near Lake Whatcom. Those pics are taking me back. Thanks!

We have talked about it Bill. At this time I could only keep up on the descent.

Great photos, thanks for sharing.
But I have to ask ... worm blower?

RBMann 05-19-2019 09:58 AM

A Worm Blower will inflate your bait making it larger and float too. Other uses may exist also.

Droptarotter 05-19-2019 06:39 PM

I'm glad Alfa asked that question......I was afraid to!

ckcarr 05-19-2019 06:44 PM

So not only are you going to kill the worm by drowning it, but you also torture it first.

Oh the horror.

Reminds me of white bass fishing on the Wolf River in Wisconsin and we used minnows, but of course my dad taught me to put the minnow on the hook by piercing it through both eyes... "Don't worry, they can't feel it." He would say.
Not sure they couldn't feel it, but being a little boy it was all good gleeful fun. Like frying ants with a magnifying glass.
